About the Brand
Pomagránait, at its core, creates revolutionary art from a leftist perspective with a focus on sustainability, handcrafted designs and individuality. Many of the pieces are handmade and all of them rely solely on sustainable materials. Their creation is deliberately slow and intentional, giving apt room for creativity and artistic freedom.
The shop includes a collection of pieces, ranging from clothing to accessories to smoking items. The selection is dynamic, constantly evolving, growing and shrinking, as new pieces replace or complement older ones.
Pomagránait is based in Zurich, Switzerland.
About the Name
“Pomagránait” is the Irish word for pomegranate. I chose this name in reference to a country that has successfully fought colonialism. Specifically, the name celebrates the Irish language, which the British unsuccessfully attempted to violently suppress in their efforts to rob Ireland of its identity and culture.
Pomegrantes are a symbol femininity and a repeated image in my illustrations, depicting themes of fertility, violence, and rebirth. The fruit originally comes from Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan - all countries that have suffered significantly at the hands of Western imperialism and the latter of which I personally have family from.
The Artist
Artist Statement
As the creative force behind Pomagránait, I channel my passion for art and advocacy into crafting fashion and lifestyle accessories. My journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with my commitment to progressive politics and my love for the collective. Drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and social movements, with special focus on decolonization and intersectional feminism, I strive to create pieces that are not only aesthetically compelling but also resonate with purpose.
Education and Experience
I am a mostly self-taught artist. As a trained actress, my experience in film and photography, as well as my love for stories and colors have shaped my artistic perspective and define every piece.
After a life of creating art and a decade of doing it professionally, my work has become focused, creative, and complex even in simplicity. I work with a diverse range of styles ranging from digital art to sewing and crocheting., always ensuring that the final product reflects my vision for the future - sustainability and overarching justice.
